When a Repair Has to Go Back to the Maker

Some failures cannot be fixed at a bench. A cracked shell, moisture that reached the electronics, a sealed unit that needs rebuilding: those need a manufacturer repair, and we hold direct accounts with all the major ones. We document the fault, send it in, and handle the follow-up so you are not stuck explaining your device to a call center. You pick it up from the same office you dropped it at.

Hearing Aid Repair FAQs

What Ohio patients ask before bringing a device in: which brands we service, what we can fix in the office, what has to ship out, and how fast you hear back.

Most of the calls that start with “my hearing aid died” end with a working device the same visit. The usual culprits are wax and moisture: blocked wax guards, a clogged receiver port, a dome that has hardened, corroded battery contacts, or charging pins that need cleaning. We vacuum and clean the device, replace the consumable parts, and swap failed receiver wires or BTE tubing.

Reprogramming counts as repair work too. If your aids have drifted from what your ears need, or a software update left them sounding wrong, we can reload and retune them. Feedback and whistling usually trace back to a worn earmold or a poor seal, which is also fixable in the office.

Call the office nearest you and we will get you in. We know how much of a problem a dead hearing aid is when you rely on it to work, take calls, or follow a conversation at home, so device trouble gets treated as time sensitive rather than queued behind routine appointments.

Bench work is usually done while you wait. Repairs that have to go to the manufacturer take longer, and we will give you a realistic timeframe when we send it out instead of leaving you guessing. Akron is (330) 785-0800, Newark is (740) 920-4608, and Newcomerstown and Zanesville share (740) 920-4609.

It depends on two things: what is actually wrong, and whether the device is still under manufacturer warranty. Cleanings, wax guards, domes, and receiver swaps sit at the low end. A manufacturer rebuild on an out-of-warranty device is the other end of the range, and it normally comes back with fresh warranty coverage on the work.

What we will not do is start work and hand you a surprise. You get the price before anything is authorized, including the shipping cost if the device leaves the office. Call the clinic nearest you with the brand and model and we will narrow it down before you drive over — you will find every office and its direct number on our locations page.

Daily habits do most of the work. Wipe the devices down with a dry cloth before they go in their case overnight, keep them away from hairspray and lotion, and take them out before you shower or swim. Change wax guards on the schedule we give you rather than waiting for the sound to cut out. If you sweat heavily or work outdoors, a drying kit is worth having.

Beyond that, bring them in periodically for a professional clean. A deep vacuum of the microphone ports and receiver reaches debris that no home cleaning tool will, and we catch developing problems while they are still small. Routine maintenance is available at every one of our Ohio offices, for every brand.

We Don't Let Hearing Aids End Up in a Drawer

Plenty of hearing aids get sold. Fewer get worn. Advanced EARGEAR has spent 20 years closing that gap, starting every patient with a full audiometric assessment and a conversation about what they actually need to hear at home and at work. We verify the fit, adjust as your hearing changes, and service your devices at every one of our Ohio offices, whatever brand you wear and wherever you bought it.
